CYSYNIAD YR ARDDANGOSFA
EXHIBITION
CONCEPT
The exhibition will present the work of Wales-based theatre designers and makers installed in vacant storefronts across the city centre FOR Cardiff business district, engaging with the public by placing the work in their natural path with further information being available through a QR accessed digital catalogue. This could include both design artefacts and realised elements of set, costume, puppetry, props, projections, sound and lighting across all types of performance, including traditional theatre, musicals, opera, dance, community based projects, festivals, and other performative events. The exhibition will also explore digital and other works created as the industry sought ways to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.
While also showcasing the inspirational and moving work being created by Wales-based designers and makers that ripples across national, UK, and international audiences, the project also keenly seeks inclusion of work that showcases best practice, especially in regards to sustainability, inclusivity, and accessibility. The project aims to create a long-lasting network of support and dialogue for Wales-based theatre makers, as well as, what we believe to be, the first exhibition and publication focused solely on performance design in Wales.
Bydd yr arddangosfa’n cyflwyno gwaith cynllunwyr a gwneuthurwyr theatr sydd wedi’u lleoli yng Nghymru wedi’i osod mewn siopau gwag ar draws ardal fusnes canol y ddinas ‘FOR Cardiff’, gan ymgysylltu â’r cyhoedd drwy osod y gwaith yn eu llwybr naturiol gyda gwybodaeth bellach ar gael drwy gatalog digidol a gyrchir drwy god QR. Gallai’r gwaith gynnwys arteffactau cynllunio ac elfennau wedi’u gwireddu o setiau, gwisgoedd, pypedau, propiau, tafluniadau, sain a goleuo ar draws pob math o ddulliau perfformio, gan gynnwys theatr draddodiadol, sioeau cerdd, opera, dawns, prosiectau cymunedol, gwyliau a digwyddiadau perfformio eraill. Bydd yr arddangosfa hefyd yn archwilio gweithiau digidol a gweithiau eraill a grëwyd wrth i’r diwydiant chwilio am ffyrdd o lywio drwy’r pandemig COVID-19.
Yn ogystal ag arddangos y gwaith ysbrydoledig a chyffrous sy’n cael ei greu gan gynllunwyr a gwneuthurwyr o Gymru sy’n ymledu ar draws cynulleidfaoedd cenedlaethol, y DU a rhyngwladol, mae’r prosiect hefyd yn awyddus i gynnwys gwaith sy’n arddangos arfer gorau, yn enwedig o ran cynaliadwyedd, cynwysoldeb a hygyrchedd. Nod y prosiect yw creu rhwydwaith hirhoedlog o gefnogaeth a deialog ar gyfer gwneuthurwyr theatr o Gymru, yn ogystal â’r hyn a gredwn yw’r arddangosfa a’r cyhoeddiad cyntaf sy’n canolbwyntio’n llwyr ar gynllunio ar gyfer perfformio yng Nghymru.

GWAITH CYMWYS
-
Rydym yn gwahodd gwaith gan gynllunwyr a gwneuthurwyr o Gymru ar draws pob disgyblaeth ym maes cynllunio ar gyfer perfformio - golygfeydd, gwisgoedd, propiau, goleuo, sain, taflunio/fideo, pypedwaith, ac ati - a grëwyd ers mis Tachwedd 2019.
-
Gall gwaith fod yn gynhyrchiad a wireddwyd neu’n brosiect heb ei wireddu a ganslwyd/gohiriwyd oherwydd pandemig COVID-19.
-
Mae hyn hefyd yn cynnwys gweithiau digidol a gweithiau eraill a grëwyd wrth i’r diwydiant chwilio’n greadigol am ffyrdd o lywio drwy’r pandemig COVID-19.
-
Ni chaniateir gwaith a grëwyd fel rhan o gwrs addysgiadol neu gwrs gradd.
-
Rydym yn annog cynllunwyr nid yn unig i rannu delweddau neu gynhyrchion gorffenedig, ond hefyd i ddathlu a rhannu eu proses fel rhan o’u harddangosfa.
-
Croesewir ac anogir gweithiau a grëwyd fel rhan o brosiectau cymunedol, gwyliau, digwyddiadau, carnifalau a digwyddiadau eraill, yn ogystal â gwaith a grëwyd gan rai nad ydynt wedi’u hyfforddi’n draddodiadol fel cynllunwyr theatr.
-
Dylai pob cynllunydd gyflwyno un darn o waith i’r arddangosfa.
ELIGABLE
WORK
-
We invite work from Wales-based designers and makers across all disciplines in design for performance – scenic, costume, properties, lighting, sound, projection/video, puppetry, etc.. – created since November 2019.
-
Work may be of a realized production or of an unrealized project cancelled/postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
-
This also includes digital and other works created as the industry creatively sought ways to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.
-
Work created as part of an educational or degree course is not permitted.
-
We strongly encourage designers to not only share images or finished products, but to celebrate and share their process as part of their display.
-
Works created as part of community projects, festivals, events, carnivals, and other events, as well as work created by those not traditionally trained as theatre designers is welcome and encouraged.
-
Each designer should submit a single piece of work to the exhibition.
CYNALADWYEDD A HYGYRCHEDD
-
Bydd yr arddangosion unigol yn cael eu creu yn bennaf gan ddefnyddio strwythur arddangos cynaliadwy a ddatblygwyd yn CBCDC, gydag opsiynau cyfyngedig ar gyfer maint agorfeydd mewn fflatiau ar gyfer gweld gwrthrychau. Yna dylid cuddio blychau model ac arteffactau eraill i’w cyflwyno mewn modd dymunol o fewn yr agorfeydd hyn. Ceir disgrifiad llawn a lluniadau o’r system hon ar y tudalennau canlynol.
-
Gellir neilltuo hyd at 2 fflat i bob cynllunydd
-
Mae plinthiau a modelau ar gael i arddangoswyr, a chânt eu dyrannu ar sail y cyntaf i gyflwyno.
-
Byddem yn gofyn i’r arddangoswyr sy’n cymryd rhan gyfyngu eu hunain o ran eu defnydd o ddeunyddiau newydd i adnewyddu neu ail-greu gwrthrychau i’w harddangos.
-
Bydd hefyd yn ofynnol i gynllunwyr ddarparu disgrifiadau ysgrifenedig o bob gwrthrych a arddangosir a recordiadau sain ohonynt eu hunain yn darllen holl destunau’r arddangosfa.
-
Mae nifer cyfyngedig o sgriniau fideo stoc ar gael hefyd.
-
Gall cynllunwyr gyflwyno eu testunau ysgrifenedig a recordiadau sain yn Gymraeg neu Saesneg a bydd tîm yr arddangosfa yn eu cyfieithu a’u recordio yn yr iaith arall.
-
Rydym yn annog ANSAWDD dros SWM – ar gyfer llawer o brosiectau bydd gwrthrych unigol – megis gwisg, braslun, prop, neu elfen – yn creu digon o effaith fel bod deunyddiau ategol eraill yn ddiangen ac y gellir eu cynnwys yn y catalog digidol. Bydd y tîm curadurol mewn cysylltiad â phob arddangoswr ac efallai y bydd angen iddynt olygu/lleihau arddangosion unwaith y bydd lleoedd wedi’u cadarnhau.
-
Bydd cod QR wedi’i rifo gyda phob arddangosyn yn mynd â’r ymwelwyr yn syth i’r cofnod catalog digidol.
SUSTAINABILITY & ACCOUNTABILITY
-
The individual exhibits will primarily be created utilizing a sustainable exhibition structure developed at RWCMD, with limited options for sizes of apertures in flats for viewing objects. Model boxes and other artifacts should then be masked to be presented in a pleasing manner within these apertures. Full description and drawings of this system on following pages.
-
Each designer can be allotted up to 2 flats
-
Plinths and mannequins are available to exhibitors, and will be allocated on a first submitted, first assigned basis.
-
We would ask participating exhibitors to limit themselves in using new materials to refurbish or recreate objects for exhibit.
-
Designers will also be required to supply written descriptions of each exhibited object and audio recordings of themselves reading all exhibition texts.
-
A limited number of stock video screens are also available.
-
Designers may submit their written texts and audio recordings in either English or Welsh and the exhibition team will have them translated and recorded in the alternative language.
-
We encourage QUALITY over QUANTITY – for many projects a single object – such as a costume, sketch, prop, or element – will create a sufficient impact that other supporting materials are unnecessary and can be included in the digital catalogue. The curatorial team will be in contact with each exhibitor and may need to edit/reduce exhibits once spaces are confirmed.
-
Each display will be accompanied by a numbered QR code taking the visitors directly to the digital catalogue entry.
OPSIYNAU
ERAILL
-
Mae blaen siopau gwag yn gyfle cyffrous a deinamig i gyflwyno gwaith cynllunwyr a gwneuthurwyr theatr, ac felly rydym yn deall efallai na fydd eich gwaith arfaethedig yn cyd-fynd â’r strwythur uchod. Os hoffech drafod posibiliadau arddangosiadau unigryw (yn enwedig yr eitemau deinamig hynny megis unedau golygfeydd, pypedau, gwisgoedd, ac ati…) cysylltwch â’r tîm curadurol yn uniongyrchol i drefnu cyfarfod i drafod.
-
Dylid dal creu unrhyw arddangosiadau o’r fath gan ddefnyddio deunyddiau nad ydynt yn newydd neu ddeunyddiau wedi’u hailgylchu a chyfrifoldeb yr arddangoswr fydd sicrhau hyn.
OTHER
OPTIONS
-
Vacant storefronts present an exciting and dynamic opportunity to present work of theatre designers and makers, and as such we understand that your intended work might not fit within the above structure. If you would like to discuss the possibilities of unique displays (especially of those dynamic items such as scenic units, puppets, costumes, etc…) please contact the curatorial team directly to arrange a meeting to discuss.
-
Any such displays should still be created using non-virgin or recycled materials and will responsibility of the exhibitor to realise.
CEFNOGAETH ARTIFFACTAU
-
Rydym yn cydnabod y bydd llawer o arteffactau cynllunio bellach ym meddiant cynhyrchwyr/cwmnïau theatr. Gallwn helpu i gysylltu â chwmnïau i ryddhau’r eitemau hyn i’w harddangos a byddwn yn eu hannog i gefnogi cynllunwyr i’r eithaf wrth gyflwyno’r gwaith hwn.
-
Bydd pob cynllunydd yn gyfrifol am osod a dad-rigio eu gwaith (naill ai’n bersonol neu drefnu i gynorthwyydd neu gydweithiwr ei osod). Darperir gwirfoddolwyr ym mhob lleoliad i gynorthwyo. Os yw cynllunydd yn cael problemau gyda’r dyddiadau gosod ac yn methu â threfnu cynrychiolydd, cysylltwch â thîm yr arddangosfa i drafod eithriadau/opsiynau.
ARTIFACT
SUPPORT
-
We recognize that many design artifacts will now be in the possession of producers/theatre companies. We can assist in liaising with companies in having these items released for exhibition and will encourage them to support designers to the fullest in presenting this work.
-
Each designer will be responsible for the installation and de-rig of their work (either personally or arranging for an assistant or colleague to install). Volunteer pairs of hands will be provided at each location to assist. If a designer has conflict with the installation dates and cannot arrange a representative, please contact the exhibition team to discuss exceptions/options.
